My family and I decided to foster dogs during quarantine to help empty the shelter if there was an emergency shut down. We took on an adult male and five unrelated puppies. They have each presented their own challenges and have been more work than I expected. Despite this, they seem to fit comfortably into the house hold and I know they give my family members something to focus on during the stay-at-home orders. Working closely with dogs that I am not familiar with has made me more creative in how I approach their problems, what worked for my dog may not work for them, more sympathetic, it is important to be open to their feelings, and more goal oriented, I celebrate even their smallest victories.
